I was very happy with my purchase of a Altec Lansing speaker dock for my XM radio. The shipment came quickly, and I am pleased with the item.
$30 Amazon price is $100+ lower than local store price. Higher mount location would mean more wire showing. This is our first satellite radio, and are thrilled with it. Paid over $200 for professional installation in our van (newer vehicle) - looks great, sounds great. Found a code on the internet for a XM subscription discount, and used it to get a $77 annual subscription from XM, versus $12.95 per month. Many station choices - we like many of the music stations, the comedy channels, baseball games, and sports talk. Sounds great, looks OK, but I mounted it low on console so visible wires are minimal.
Don't have Aux input to use, nor a cassette player. Helps immensely on long trips out of state, and while commuting to job (30 minutes). Was easy to install myself, and SureConnect connection to car radio antenna was easy and sounds great. Love no commercials on music stations. Bought another car kit ($17) from Amazon and installed it myself. For $30 for radio and car kit, it's a steal. Only regret is paying so much for professional installation in van.
Ok, I feel for people with a bad unit. It's a great unit, just some of these have been sitting around on a shelf somewhere for a while (from the original $199.00 price days) and just need this simple fix to straighten them out. The firmware version is shown at the bottom of the screen at startup, my first unit was version 1.03.
I had another one arrive a few days later from another seller, it worked great. (16 revisions of the firmware have obviously solved numerous problems) So I went to XM's firmware update page (http://fwupdt.xmradio.com/), hooked up the supplied USB cable from my computer to my SkyFi unit, clicked on the "XM Firmware Client (R2.26} (in red) at the bottom of that page and followed the simple instructions and let it do its update magic. Mine was working for two hours then locked up.
Version 1.19 is the latest. Difference was: THE FIRMWARE. I reset the first locked up unit by pressing the Volume+ button on the side while pushing the Mode (on/off) button on the front.
Presto.my first unit works great now, no lockups, just smooth operations in all features. Best XM radio value out there.
I installed this unit a few days ago and am very happy with it. I didn't bother doing the firmware update and have had no lockups. I attached the fm modulator coupler to my external antenna and the sound is crystal clear. I can't imagine getting a better product, especially at this low cost.
I purchased the wireless router in order to transmit the signal from the south side of my house to a location inside my house. It is lightweight, the right size to fit in you shirt pocket or pants pocket and has the right functionality to serve its purpose. It took me about 2 hours to read the directions for each device and get everything working. Its mobility allows it to be used in your home, car and outside walking or jogging.
I tried to turn it on one day after not using it for a week and it wouldn't come on. You have to purchase the accessories for the home and outside functionality. I also purchased the home kit since the SKyFi3 comes with a car kit. I am really impressed with the Skyfi3 XM Satellite Radio. These can then be sorted by various means to access the recordings. The antenna is supposed to be weatherproof but I am not taking any chances.
Even the car installation was very easy and worked once all the parts were connected. I have had one glitch with the device.
The device has many functions and for the $26.99 including S&H for the car kit it was well worth it. The sound quality is good with enough volume to overcome most external sounds, in particularly for me, a lawn mower.
After much anxiety I read the manual and it explained how to reset the device. It is absolutely necessary to have clear view of the southern sky in order to receive the satellite signal.
It has worked wonderfully after setting up the antennae outside in a covered plastic container. I like most it ability to set up recording schedules for your XM stations.
I highly recommend this device and its accessories.
